How it works
Spot prices for gold, silver, platinum and palladium are quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams) and converted to dirhams at 3.6725.
Gold by karat is worked out from its purity: 24K is 99.9% gold, 22K is 91.6%, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%.
Questions
Why is the jewellery shop price higher?
Retail prices include making charges, the dealer's margin and 5% VAT on jewellery in the UAE. Spot prices are the wholesale market price of the metal itself.
